Sinners redeemed to be His unique possession for good works!
Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"
1 Kings 8:46 says, "...(for there is no man who does not sin)..."
Every single one of us have sinned and CONTINUE to sin, continue to fall short; not one of us is without sin. Because of this sin, we fall short of God's glory, God's expression; we do not accomplish what God had originally intended, for us to be His expression, and we contradict the holiness and righteousness of God, expressing sin and our own sinful self instead. Not a single one is holy or righteous or without sin. Every one falls short.
But hallelujah! 1 Peter 1:18-19 tells us that we were redeemed and redeemed not with corruptible things but with precious blood! "Blood as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, the blood of CHrist." We are cleansed and marked by the blood of Christ, without blemish and without spot, and by it, through it, under it, we are redeemed!
Titus 2:14 says, "Who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify to Himself a particular people as His unique possession, zealous of good works."
Christ, the only one without sin, gave Himself on our behalf to redeem us and purify us to be like Him, so that He might gain us as a unique possession! We, as His unique possession, must be zealous of good works! "For we are His masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand in order that we would walk in them"! (Eph. 2:10) So what are these good works we were created for, that we must be zealous of? Footnote 10^3 says, "The good works for which God created us are not the good things that are according to our general concept but the definite good things that God preplanned and preordained for us to walk in. These good things must be the doing of His will that we may live the church life and bear the testimony of Jesus, as revealed in the succeeding chapters of this book."
Doesn't it make you want to read on, read the rest of Ephesians as quickly as possible? :D We must be zealous to do God's will! Not our own thinking, our own goals and hobbies and pursuits (all of sinful, corruptible nature), but God's will! What He has willed in eternity past for eternity future. So we must live the church life and bear the testimony of Jesus, as He intended and planned. Hallelujah!
Hymn #468 (Chinese):
1. 我若稍微偏离正路,我要立刻舒服;
但我纪念我主基督,如何忠心受苦。
4. 我心所望不是伟大,不是今生通达,
我愿现在卑微事主,那日得祂称许。

If not now, then when?
As a Christian and a human, we have our questions and our wonderings. Amidst our daily lives, while we search for answers, seek after the Truth, it is inevitable that we often feel inadequate for the task divinely appointed for us. Even when we trust the Lord's sovereignty in having chosen us and serve within our locality, it is still easy to be constrained by our immediate environment and situation. Because our personal surroundings are all we experience, we are often only concerned with that, forgetting the rest of the Lord's Body and all the work that still awaits.
In this, Paul sets an encouraging example, as illustrated in today's E-Manna, titled: "A Broadened Heart for the Lord's Interest."
Acts 19:21 says, "And when these things were fulfilled, Paul purposed in his spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome."
Part of the message reads, "While Paul was laboring and facing attack at Ephesus, he had the heart to care for the situation in Jerusalem and also to see Rome. What largeness of heart Paul had!... His primary concern was for the whole Body of Christ, not only for his part of the New Testament ministry."
Are we so caught up in our own portions and work that we can't see the forest for the trees? Or are we like Paul, caring for the entire Body even while we face our immediate situation? Do we remember that the Lord's Body is universal? What do we pray for when we are alone with the Lord?
Whatever our personal feelings and problems, the Lord's work waits to be finished. To quote one of Uncle Ricky's most stirring phrases, "If not now, then when? If not us, then who?" It is wonderful if we can share and contribute the talents we have received. It is even more wonderful if we can look beyond what seems to be the extent of our portions and see what else is on the Lord's heart.
Do we think of Jerusalem and Rome? How large are our hearts?

With every breath
O Lord breathe Thy Spirit on me,
Teach me how to breathe Thee in,
Help me pour into Thy bosom
All my life of self and sin
I am breathing out my sorrow,
Breathing out my sin;
I am breathing, breathing, breathing,
All Thy fulness in.
I am breathing out my own life,
That I may be filled with Thine;
Letting go my strength and weakness,
Breathing in Thy life divine.
Breathing out my sinful nature,
Thou hast borne it all for me;
Breathing in Thy cleansing fulness,
Finding all my life in Thee.
I am breathing out my sorrow,
On Thy kind and gentle breast;
Breathing in Thy joy and comfort,
Breathing in Thy peace and rest.
I am breathing out my sickness,
Thou hast borne its burden too;
I am breathing in Thy healing,
Ever promised, ever new.
I am breathing out my longings
In Thy listening, loving ear;
I am breathing in Thy answers,
Stilling every doubt and fear.
I am breathing every moment,
Drawing all my life from Thee;
Breath by breath I live upon Thee,
Lord, Thy Spirit breathe in me.

It takes just one drop to wet a stone
Songbook # 621
"Out of my shameful failure and loss,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into Thy glorious gain of Thy cross
Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of earth's sorrows into Thy balm,
Out of life's storm and into Thy calm,
Out of distress to jubilant psalm,
Jesus, I come to Thee!"

Keep the end of the road in sight
Hymn # 582 (Songbook)
1. What things were gains to me,
These I now count as loss.
Jesus has set me free
From what I was!
All of the things I had:
Everything good or bad,
I count as refuse
That I may gain Christ!(Chorus:)
I won't give up!
I will keep running until
I have attained
The goal of my calling!
I will press on
I will pursue until
I lay hold of Him
Who laid hold of me!2. Forget the things behind!
Stretch for the things before!
Press onward with this mind:
Always want more!
Seeking in Him to grow,
Increasingly to know
Him that daily I might
Be found in Christ.
